Profile of a Female Convict

This month we will take a look at the life of

Margaret McGreavy

Margaret McGreavy was never far from the watchful eye of the authorities. She led a well documented life from the time of her conviction in Ireland in August 1817 until her death in Watt Street, Newcastle in December 1865.

Margaret and her husband, James, ran the Star and Garter Inn located in Watt Street, and soon afterwards, the Queen Victoria Inn.

Margaret’s life story can be found in our podcasts section.
